Horizon Portfolio
Horizon is a portfolio of Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) from an 80/20 mix of resource conservation schemes and renewable energy. This tends to be less expensive on a per tonne basis than other portfolios where the proportion of renewables is higher: renewable energy installation often require heavier investment at the project level, hence the emission reduction units are more costly. Regardless of the specific project, the principles are the same: projects need additional funding to make them economically viable; a verified carbon credit is created out of the CO2 savings achieved by the project; through
‘off setting’, a company pays for the carbon credits; the sale feeds back to the project and so helps make them viable. It's a virtuous circle.
