R K Shipman Support the MED Theatre's Community Play 'Snow'

For the second year running R K Shipman are supporting the MED Theatre by sponsoring their production ‘Snow.’

After the success of their community play Hot Air last year, we are delighted they are continuing their focus on environmental issues. Their new community play, Snow, is based on the winter of 1962-63 on Dartmoor.

The Last Great Winter is a large-scale trans-generational project, compiled from research about the harsh winter of 1962/63. This research has involved oral history interviews with members of the local community that have first hand memories of the challenging conditions on Dartmoor at that time. The investigation of weather and how it has changed over the last half a century is central to the project and will be in the forefront of the participants’ and audience’s minds. The project is building up to the performance of the new community play Snow, compiled by twelve members of the community and collated by playwright Mark Beeson who was on Dartmoor during that winter himself.

The play will be performed in early March - dates and venues as below:

Manaton – Saturday 7th March 2009

Newton Abbot – Tuesday 10th March 2009

Belstone – Wednesday 11th March 2009

Moretonhampstead – Friday 13th March & Saturday 14th March 2009

MED Theatre is a community theatre organisation based on Dartmoor. They put a lot of energy into working with young people, and have a long-standing relationship with local schools - it's during their school years that children's interest in drama and storytelling is made for life. Playwriting workshops with primary school children have been part of the MED Theatre programme almost since the company began.
